More Things We Like

Ok, “Things We Don’t Like” will have to wait. Instead, watch a few old-school flight safety videos (inspired by our lovely, ginger-haired Delta flight attendant) a few classic commercials and some 80s pop music.

Remember when you could smoke on airplanes? Better yet, remember TWA?

Delta found some art director and decided to animate parts of its safety video. At first I thought it looked like the “Take On Me” music video by A-ha, but then again perhaps they found Ralph Bakshi to direct it.

This advert from the 1970s talks about United’s new DC-10 aircraft, featuring a “friendship room” in coach class.

Another United spot from 1982 featuring a fresh-faced young flight attendant in anticipation of her first day on the job. Note the slight sexual innuendo as well as the claim that they are the “largest airline in the free world.” Remember the Soviet Union? Yeah, that’s a Reagan-adminstration type shot.

Next up we’ve got Continental from 1977. Watch out, the jingle is mighty catchy.

This American Airlines commercial is a little more serious, but note the flight attendant give out a pair of wings to the little girl. I miss those days. Remember Eastern Airlines?

Finally, Southwest ends this little nostalgic tour with a memorable commercial that is probably far too politically incorrect for this day and age.
