Offbeat Guides On the Road

December 3rd, 2009 by Zain Iqbal

Question: when do travel writers actually get out on to the road and travel? Answer: whenever we feel like it! While we’re not exactly taking advantage of all-expenses paid junkets to Belize or Puerto Vallarta to tout the hottest resort, we do take advantage of pre-planned, personal trips to explore and put our findings into words, whether it’s a trip to Southeast Asia, a vacation back home to Australia, or even a road trip across the United States. Find out more about where Offbeat Guides will be in December.

phuket - kata beachZain is setting his sights on Thailand for the first time, as he heads off to lounge on the beaches of Phuket, take in the madness that is bustling Bangkok, and takes a highly-anticipated overnight train trip to Chiang Mai. On the way back he’ll stop over in Tokyo for a few nights where he hopes to visit the Tsukiji fish market as well as take in some of the city’s nightlife.

melbourne - hidden barsMarina heads back home to Melbourne and when she isn’t catching up with family and friends, she’ll surely be taking advantage of some of the bars around her hometown, as well as searching for the newest ones that are hidden throughout the city (with an update to follow of course.) Of course, much of her time will be spent in a desperate search for Australian-themed gifts for our engineering team of Eric, Ollie, and Jon.

goblin valley - 3While Lauren’s road trip across the USA was this past summer, she’s got a slew of articles which we’ll be posting for her, highlighting her trek from the Sierra Nevada mountain hot springs, jumping for joy in Goblin Valley (next Wednesday’s post) to cozying up to the Jersey Shore, and beyond.

  1. We recently got back from our vacation to Phuket and really wish that we didn’t have to leave so soon as we really enjoyed it and will unquestionably visit again! We stayed at Nirvana Thai which we can for sure recommend. We hired a car at $50 for 9 days, it was by far the cheapest and a convienent way to go and it was alot of fun too! The zoo is definitely worth while taking a trip. Also eating places in Phuket Town to visit are Thai Food Heaven-romantic, delish and cool. Book a table with your feet in the pool!
