A Pearl of a Sculpture Garden

November 9th, 2009 by Zain Iqbal

Jeju Island is located south of the main Korean peninsula. It has a 6,400 foot shield volcano, a subtropical rainforest, several beautiful waterfalls and a distinctive culture that evolved separately from their mainland cousins. Parts of the island are designated World Heritage Sites. It’s also home to a bizarre theme park illustrating the pleasures of the flesh.

The official name of the park is Jeju Love Land and, according to its website, touts itself as a “humorous love theme park” and a place where “love-oriented art and eroticism meet.” While the works are definitely graphic in nature, they doesn’t (always) cross the lines into tastelessness.

We’ll give you a taste of some of the less graphic sculptures below, but if you’re looking for the full experience, here’s a link that may be NSFW (no graphic, live nudity; just images of sculptures and art in all sorts of racy positions.)

Can’t get enough museums and artists exhibits dedicated to the pleasures of the flesh? Amsterdam’s famous Sex Museum (sort of NSFW) has a large collection of risque art, sculptures, and history dedicated to sex and sexuality. Neighboring China was going to open a park similar to Korea’s Love Land, even going so far as to give it the same name, but government officials shut the project down just before it was about to open.
