SF On The Cheap!
July 10th, 2009 by Lauren Locke-Paddon
Who doesn’t like things for free? Check out our summer time sampling of what the city has to offer at no cost.
The Stern Grove Festival: In its 72nd year this festival is hugely popular and features eclectic and renowned performers from around the world. The park is located at 19th Avenue and Sloat Boulevard and the 2009 concerts begin every Sunday at 2pm from June 21st to August 23rd . Arrive early (and preferably by public transportation/bicycle for a good spot on the grass) to see Joan Baez, Kailash Kher’s Kailasa, the San Francisco Ballet and more! Find out more here.
Dolores Park: Sunny days in Dolores Park (Dolores St. between 18th and 20th Streets, Mission District) are the ultimate see-and-be-seen-destination. Loll on the sloping grass and watch the beautiful people. As an added bonus amazing ice cream from the Bi-Rite creamery is right down the street.
First Thursdays in San Francisco: Downtown San Francisco art galleries come alive on the first Thursday of each month for this happening. SFADA (the San Francisco Art Dealers Association) has more information at their site here.
Anchor Steam Brewery Tour: Call and schedule a free tour of the historic brewery followed by a tasting. A great thing to do with friends! Details here.
First Tuesdays at the SF Moma: Arguably San Francisco’s premier art museum, admission is waived on the first Tuesday of each month. On Thursday evenings admission is half-price and the museum is open until 8:45 pm. Check their website for specific events and exhibitions here.
